John Keawe was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, in the little town of North Kohala. John grew up with rock and roll music and enjoyed listening to singer/songwriters.
After 4 years in the service, John returned to Hawaii and fell in love with Hawaiian slack key. He listened and watched and taught himself to play this style of music. After a few years, he developed his own distinct style. About the same time, John began writing songs, and began to play publicly. He had two compositions, "Ka'auhuhu Homestead" and "Big Island Magic" which were chosen for album cuts on projects that involved various artists.
Since releasing his debut album, "Island Touch", John has released 7 additional recordings and received numerous accolades and awards.
Ths song John and his wife Hope performed for us was originally written by John one evening while sitting at the beach, thinking about Hope. We were honored to spend some wonderful time with John and Hope and are very pleased to share the artistry of them both on our first show.
